    Description:       Gain better awareness of hazards facing the Electrical Worker working on, or near, energized Electrical Equipment. Learn why Lockout/Tagout, P.P.E., and other electrical safety measures matter to everyone and what potential electrical hazards exist in the workplace. This course intends to improve your understanding of essential safety-related work practices and responsibilities. Review the scope of NFPA 70E standard, identify potential electrical hazards in the workplace, describe safety-related training requirements, and learn the essential requirements for development of an electrical safety program.     Programmable Logic Controller Training                                                      Course #SP 125

    Description:       This class begins with a review of basic motor controls and troubleshooting before getting into Programmable Logic Controller (PLC) training for the construction industry. Students will wire control circuits on our motor control boards using limit switches, relays, and time-delay relays to control functions. Then students will learn the advantages of PLCs and will be introduced to programming, wiring, and troubleshooting using the PLC trainers in our lab. Students will learn the basics of PLC operation which leads to a better understanding of modern control systems being integrated into the Building Management Systems today. In this class, students will write simple programs, upload them onto the PLC and see how they operate. Students are required to bring a Windows-based laptop to program with.

    Fiber Optic Training                                                                                             Course #SP 128

    Description:    This class will cover Fiber Optic training for the construction industry, including safety and code. There is a prerequisite for this class that students must complete prior to the in-person dates indicated above for this course. Students must complete approximately 16 hours of online training prior to the In-Person portion of the class. Once payment is received, the instructor’s email will be provided, and the instructor will be available for guidance with the online coursework. For the In-Person portion, students will have 16 hours of hands-on training including the history, current use, and future of Fiber Optics in construction. Learn how to install, terminate, inspect, and test Fiber Optic cable using Corning termination kits and Fluke meter testing equipment. There will be a certification test at the conclusion of the course. With successful completion of the written certification test and demonstration of the necessary knowledge, skills, and abilities to perform the hands-on work, students will be awarded the Fiber Optic Associations "Certified Fiber Optic Technician" certificate. Be advised! There is a non-refundable $100 certification fee. The certification is good for 3 years.

    Electrical Vehicle Charging Systems (EVCS)                                                  Course #SP 131

    Description:       This class meets online briefly on the first and last night, via Zoom Video Conference, for details about beginning and completing the coursework. The class also meets for a three-hour class session two weeks into the class to review the Code Calculations in Lesson 4 of the coursework.  The course follows a self-guided curriculum on a Learning Management System which cover all aspects of electric vehicle equipment including the vehicles, charging stations, electrical vehicle supplies, NEC requirements, advanced load calculations, site assessment, troubleshooting and commissioning of electric vehicle charging stations. Following the completion of the coursework, the certification test will be offered in-person at the school following the last day of class.

This program provides an overview of the duties and responsibilities of the foreman on a typical job and how the implementation of industry “best practices” can improve competitiveness in the construction marketplace.  Modules covered include: The Role of the Foreman, Safety, Communication, documentation, change management, project closeout, understanding the estimate, and highly effective foreman.
