Description: The 2023 NEC Code Changes course is intended to be an asynchronous course for the user and contains most significant revisions and new requirements associated with the 2023 NFPA 70 NEC. Throughout the course, you will learn about the updates of the 2023 NEC by reviewing the change summary, significance of the change, and Code language, and by taking knowledge checks on the changes throughout the course. The course has seven topics that each cover Code articles and their associated changes. Also included in the course you will find a course completion certificate and a course survey. You may purchase a 2023 NEC Code Book from the school prior to taking the course.
Electrical Vehicle Charging Systems (EVCS) Course #SP 102
Days: Self-Paced Online Timeline: Four (4) weeks 32 Hour course

Dates: March 2nd and April 2nd (on Zoom), and April 6th (in-person Certification)

Description: This class meets online briefly on the first and last night, via Zoom Video Conference, for details about beginning and completing the coursework. The course follows a self-guided curriculum on a Learning Management System which covers all aspects of electric vehicle equipment including the vehicles, charging stations, electrical vehicle supplies, NEC requirements, advanced load calculations, site assessment, troubleshooting and commissioning of electric vehicle charging stations. Following the completion of the coursework, the certification test will be offered in-person at the school following the last day of class.

Description: This class will cover 0SHA-30 training for the construction industry. Thirty hours are required by the Occupational Health and Safety Act (OSHA), which will apply to the 30-hour Construction Industry course completion card. Fiber Optic Training Course #SP 105

Description: This class will cover Fiber Optic training for the construction industry, including safety and code. There is an online portion of this class that students must complete prior to the in-person dates indicated above. Students must complete approximately 8 hours of online training prior to the In-Person portion of the class. Once payment is received, the instructor’s email will be provided, and the instructor will be available for guidance with the online coursework. For the In-Person portion, students will have 24 hours of hands-on training including the history, current use, and future of Fiber Optics in construction. Learn how to install, terminate, inspect, and test Fiber Optic cable using Corning termination kits, Sumitomo splicers and Fluke testing equipment. There will be a certification test at the end of the course. With successful completion of the written certification test and demonstration of the necessary knowledge, skills, and abilities to perform the hands-on work, students will be awarded the Fiber Optic Associations "Certified Fiber Optic Technician" certificate. Be advised! There is a non-refundable $100 certification fee. The certification is good for 3 years.

Description: This class is a hands-on lighting control basics course using WattStopper Controls. Students will learn the fundamentals of dimming controls, line vs. 0-10v, occupancy controls, daylighting controls, and WattStopper’s DLM network wiring and basic programming including emergency control functions. Lessons will include safety, code, and Title 24 related to lighting controls.

Description: This class will review various types of Fluke instruments that are commonly used in the electrical industry. Descriptions of the tools and their specifications will be taught during this class. Electrical measurements on live sources and on various pieces of equipment will be included in this class. This class does not require any experience with electrical instrumentation to participate. This class is a precursor for future test instrument classes with more sophisticated digital multimeters and other pieces of equipment.

Students will learn the advantages of PLCs and will be introduced to programming, wiring, and troubleshooting using the PLC trainers in our lab. Students will learn the basics of PLC operation, including what analog and digital inputs are, and how this combination of hardware works to achieve the modern style of control systems which can be integrated into the Building Management Systems that we see in nearly every building in today's world. In this class we will be writing programs, uploading them onto the PLC and you will be able to see how they operate. You will be required to bring your own Windows-based laptop.
